Mountain men and miners are a big part in the history of Montana and so are the women. In 1916, Montana voters elected Jeannette Rankin to the United States House of Representatives. An ardent pacifist and social activist, Rankin was the first woman to serve in Congress. She was the only member to vote against the United States' entry into both World War I and World War II.
